Romans 8:31-39

“The cross is the great fixed, unmovable declaration of God‘s love.” – Tim Chester

1. The gospel establishes God’s love for us

“ for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” “No one is good, no not one. No one understands, no one seeks for God. All have turned aside, no one does good, no not one.”

– Romans 3

18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth.

– Romans 1:18

“….hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. 6 For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— 8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

– Romans 5:5-8

Who delivered up Jesus to die? Not Judas, for money; not Pilate, for fear; not the Jews, for envy – but the Father, for love!

– Octavius Winslow

2. The gospel assures us that God is our ultimate protector

Yet those that be against us, so far are they from thwarting us at all, that even without their will they become to us the causes of crowns, and procurers of countless blessings, in that God’s wisdom turns their plots into our salvation and glory. See how really no one is against us!

– Chrysostom

3. The gospel assures us that we are justified and forgiven

4. The gospel overwhelms us with the promise of His constant intercession

(Jesus) is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.

– Hebrews 7:25
